COMMUNITY DISCUSSION:
OLD FOOLS & INCOMPLETE MYTHS
How do incomplete myths of aging affect the transition into healthy elderhood?
How do dominant myths shape our personal and institutional responses ageism, inter-generational tensions?
What if our collective failure to tell stories of truly healthy eldering harms everyone in our communities, and not merely the aging?
How do we begin to examine and extricate ourselves from these incomplete myths?
A link to my recorded module from Pacifica’s Extension Course on Conscious Aging will be made available to those who register to view at their convenience. This presentation examines prevalent myths of age and eldering in the dominant culture and as they emerged in the 2024 election.
and then we will gather together on Saturday December 7th on Zoom for a 90 minute recorded discussion to examine some of those myths that shape and misshape our beliefs about ourselves and others as we navigate elderhood, grief, and loss as initiatory experiences and to consider what it might require of us to create “more complete myths”
Discounts codes are available so that anyone who is interested should be able to attend.
LECTIO & SCRIPTIO SUBSCRIPTION
As I’m sure most of you are aware who follow me I offer all my groups services by donation, and share much of my writing online for free.
One way to sponsor my work and offer patronage if you value what I share - is to join my paid subscription essay series:
Two essays are shared each month - near the 1st and the 15th of the month: My personal, meditative reflections from the various archetypal, metaphysical, theological, mystical, esoteric and depth psychological texts that populate my eclectic and idiosyncratic books stacks.
I’m enjoying writing behind a paywall - the sense of privacy allows me more freedom, and to go a bit deeper.
I just posted a new essay there, on the archetype of Mary Magdalene, the distortions, erasures, and implications of her stories, and its persistent presence our lives and in my own.
If you’d like to subscribe and read it, you may do so here:
If you want to sponsor my various unreimbursed labors – the free essays I share and projects I undertake, the by donation and pro bono services and scholarships I provide – this is an excellent way to offer patronage.
ACCEPTING MEMBERS:
THE GROUP GROUP
This group is designed to support lay people and community members and clinicians in building healthy, boundaried, well-designed non-clinicial community groups.
I’ve added an additional session because I think this work is so important at this time.
Six hours over three Saturdays in January. By donation as always.
DREAM WORK AS PRAXIS
Exploring dreams as a creative, contemplative, and community practice
10 hours. Dates to be determined by polling applicants.
THE REAL NEWSLETTER
I recently shared a free essay that I have been trying to write for decades - about how encountering ruthlessness and archetypal sociopathy summons our own - and what it means to contend with that. You can read "Our Temptations" here
To receive all of my free essays, and personal updates and photos, I encourage you to sign up for my primary free newsletter that I run from my own website! I email from there about three times a month - so I won’t clog up your inbox too much - and I post here very rarely, and mostly to reach the new subscribers who find me here - and are unaware of my primary site.
Sending peace and good wishes to all in this mad mad world.
